Why Do I Have A Blog?

That seems like a fair question given how much I neglect both this personal blog and my music one.

Mostly it’s a creative outlet. I like writing, I just don’t do enough of it. Some of this is due to lack of time and energy but I also get easily distracted and forget to sort out updates. After that, I’m on the slippery slope of procrastination.

Of course, there is a level of ego at play too. Not much of one but I am putting things into the public domain so part of me must hope that people will read it.

Blogging feels quite old-fashioned these days, at least the way I have chosen to do it. I don’t aim to monetise this blog, I’m not trying to attract clicks for cash or anything like that. I used to have some affiliate links but changed my mind when the link formats kept changing without warning. I’m not ruling out some form of beneficial links in the future but for now, I get no kickbacks for the links listed in the footer under each post. They are sites run by friends, (and my Etsy shop) and it’s entirely up to you if you fancy visiting them.

The same will apply to my music blog where you will find links to my musician friends and other pages I think may be of interest, just to spread the word and share the joy.

Perhaps the best answer is that it’s to have something to do that isn’t work or scrolling through social media or sitting in front of the TV. It gives me something productive to occupy myself on the commute home on the days I get enough room on the train to write.

Whatever my reasons, the blog exists and once again I am going to try to get into a routine where it is updated more regularly, so stay tuned as it were.
