Life Update

It’s been nearly six months since I left my job, so perhaps an update is a tad overdue!

The first thing I did was sleep a lot. I was so tired. I did the same things when I was furloughed in 2020. Once I’d caught up on my sleep, it was time to decide what would keep me busy.

Lots of ideas came to mind. Mostly, I’ve been making jewellery for my Etsy shop and organising a craft room.

I am also currently a full-time cat mum to Tilly, who still very much sees me as the secondary human in life.

It’s been nice to have the time and the energy to get things done. I was so accustomed to getting up, going to work, coming home, eating, sleeping, and then getting up to go to work, that I am constantly fighting the feeling that I have to be doing something all the time, or I’m being lazy. Previously, I didn’t get things done because I was too tired and even then, I felt guilty.

I am very much a homebody for now. I’m quite enjoying it. I am in charge of the washing up and daytime cat feeding. I occasionally cook, and I potter about doing little bits of housework along the way.

I am still trying to get the hang of Stuart’s shifts, but I take pride in making sure he comes home to a cup of tea most days. (Late shifts end far too late, so he doesn’t get one then.)

I actually found time to go and get an eye test, so now I have my regular glasses and reading glasses. The biggest annoyance is not being able to multitask effectively because of this. I can’t be typing or reading things and following the TV at the same time. It’s also quite annoying that I seem to not have any middle vision so I can’t glance at my phone on the move. However, there’s a lot less squinting and subsequently fewer headaches.

My mental health seems to have improved. I’m less snappy, less quick to fly into a temper and definitely more content with life in general. My anxiety is still a minor issue, and the menopause is still affecting things. My memory is shot, and I have several methods of trying to stay organised. So far the best one has been magnetic whiteboards on the fridge for weekly schedules, reminders and various lists.

So there you go, content and pootling along pretty well. That’s not bad, is it?
