What Christmas Means To Me

Christmas was always a time of togetherness, of family. It was its own little festive bubble of joyfulness.

Over the two days of Christmas and Boxing Day, we used to all gather in one place or another. Our family meal was on the day with Nana and maybe a grandad or two when they were around, the Boxing Day buffet that would have fed the whole street at Nana’s house with all the cousins.

Things are a little less cohesive these days. The cousins all have families, so we rarely gather en masse anymore, and it just hasn’t been the same since we lost Nana. She really loved Christmas.

Last year was the first year I wasn’t with my family over Christmas. Due to Stuart’s shifts, we chose to have a Christmas for just the two of us. It was different, but it was nice. It was cosy, unfussy, and we created our own little festive bubble of joyfulness.
