Terry Jones Statue and Seriously Silly Book
They unveiled a statue t o Terry Jones in Colwyn Bay yesterday. It looked like an appropriately splendidly silly event.
Watch the ITV News video here.
The first chap interviewed in the video is my jolly good chum Robert Ross. He wrote Seriously Silly The Life of Terry Jones, the authorised biography.

I got this book on the day of release, in fact I’d had it pre-ordered for quite a while. Robert was Terry’s friend for several years and I knew that the book was going to be a labour of love albeit a sad one.
I think I’m doubly biased about the book because Terry Jones is my favourite Python as well as Robert being a long-standing friend.
The book is a love letter to their friendship and to every thing Terry did. It covers just about every aspect of Terry’s life and career that I can think of and encapsulates his enthusiasm for it all.
There is a Foreword, a Middle Word and an Afterword from fellow Pythons Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Terry Gilliam respectively.
I had to stop reading for a little while after Eric’s bit, partially because it made me a bit emotional and also so I could I take the time to read the second half of the book in one sitting, on my own, but knowing that my other half would be home soon afterwards as I was definitely going to need a hug.
I don’t want to go into detail, the joy of this book is finding things out about this amazing man, the things that made him tick, the things that annoyed him, the thing that brought him joy. Robert’s description of him in the video above sums him up wonderfully.
Look up the book in the bookshop/online shop of your choice, or your local library – it’s a smashing read, it really is. It is also available in eBook and Audiobook formats.
I can’t wait to get to Colwyn Bay in the near future to see the statue for myself and rub Terry’s bum for luck!
