The Silly Stuff That Decorates Life
Recently I’ve be trying to add more whimsy into my life. Mostly this means trying to wrestle the doomscrolling away from the news of the day and instead filling my feeds with fun things like vikings, hippies and jolly retirees with big white beards living their best lives. It’s not been easy, the evil algorithms of the social media overlords don’t like to give up their stranglehold so easily, but it’s much better now than it was.
I’ve always tried to decorate my life with silly things, even at my lowest ebb. I buy shiny trinkets that catch my eye in charity shops, novelty versions of everyday things and random plushies of various sizes that need good homes.
I embroider things that make my foolish heart happy, paint rocks, wear tie dye (once upon a time no white item of clothing was safe from my tie-dying escapades, but I don’t currently have the room to do it myself), cover every device and journal in silly stickers. It makes me smile and that’s all it has to do.
This post was inspired by the fact that on a previous trip to my parents I found my Wookiee headphones, and today I finally got around to checking if they still worked – they do!
