Event – Film Stories Live in Manchester
Last night we went to the CultPlex in Manchester to see Film Stories Live. What. A. Night!
First of all, the venue – It’s about ten minutes walk from Manchester Victoria Station, really doesn’t look like a cinema as you approach but inside is instantly pretty welcoming. There are two bars, lovely staff, computer games, three screens with varying capacities and ushers! Find out more here .
Next up – the event! It was fabulous to have this event come to Manchester. I have blethered on to anyone who will listen about Film Stories since it began. More than just a podcast or a magazine, Film Stories has developed a sense of wonderful and inclusive community. I mean,we all know the in-jokes, none of which over power the main aim of celebrating all kinds of film especially championing the independent film makers.
I don’t want to give too much away really, I think there’s a joy in discovering what the event is like for yourself. The guests last night were the former editor of Empire Magazine Terri White, and independent film maker Kieron Moore.
It was all good, nerdy fun in a casual atmosphere with engaging banter, jokes and things only occasionally going wrong. And afterwards we all ended up in the bar as Simon Brew made his round everyone for a chat.
Here’s what we learnt –
- Super Mario Galaxy is not a good movie
- Rocky movies are a contentious subjust
- Colin Baker makes a good Wallaby
- Microphones don’t always play ball
- Simon Brew is, in the words of my other half “a very funny guy”
I’ve popped a few links below plugging things from the guests and of course links to the Film Stories universe.
If you love film and having a bloody good time do try to get to one of the events. We’ll go again at the drop of a hat. (In fact we’ll be trying to arrange getting to one of the regular Birmingham ones in the future hopefully.)
