Reading Challenge 2026 – Doctor Who Novels

The festivities are over, the decorations are down, and the last of the chocolate has been consumed. Time to pick a book and begin the challenge.

I’ve decided to hark back to my youth and re-read all the original Classic Doctor Who Target novels. Childhood holidays involved me spending my holiday money buying one of these (and a bumper summer edition of Whizzer and Chips) on the first day. I would have summer adventures during the day and settle down to read before bed. More often than not, I needed to go and get another book before the week was out.

I’m looking forward to riding that wave of childhood nostalgia and revisiting these classic stories. There are 155 to get through, so I may read something different occasionally to break things up a bit.

I’ll be reading them in broadcast story order, so I am, of course, starting with Doctor Who and An Unearthly Child by Terrance Dicks.
