Christmas Without Dinner

Last year we did Christmas without Dinner. My other half only had Christmas Day and Boxing Day off in the middle of a very busy time at work, and I was still commuting to my retail job at the time too. I thankfully didn’t have to work Christmas Eve that year.

It was our first Christmas where neither of us went to family, although Stuart did pop to his sister’s for a little while on Christmas morning while I got everything ready.

Neither of us knows how to properly do a roast dinner so that everything is ready on time, and we also have the world’s smallest kitchen, so a big Christmas Dinner didn’t seem practical. We hatched a plan that basically involved grazing for two days.

The only actual cooking over the festivities was a pan of stuffing and some homemade cheese sauce. Everything else was finger food, sandwiches, pies, crisps and the like. Some of the food may have needed a quick bake in the oven as and when we were ready for it , but that was it. This meant no one was stuck in the kitchen for any length of time.

The days were spent relaxing, watching TV, opening presents, and just enjoying each other’s company. It was all really nice and chilled.

We haven’t sorted plans for this year as yet. Stuart is working up to and including Christmas Eve again, but I am slightly tempted to have a go at doing some sort of proper Christmas Dinner…maybe.
